Cherry, Alokek is the fruit of many trees of the Prunus genus, which has a core and is fleshy. Turkey, USA, Iran, Italy and Spain are major producers of cherry fruit in the world.

Description

The cherry fruit that is bought and sold are usually varieties of limited species such as: sweet cherry (car cherry) and sour cherry (albalo). The name "cherry" is also called a cherry tree, and sometimes it is also used for almonds and flowering trees similar to Peronus, such as "decorative cherry" or "sakura". Wild cherry may refer to any species that grows unplanted, although in the British Isles it is often referred to as 'wild cherry'.

Cherry has many species and is spread all over Iran. In addition to being consumed as raw fruit, cherries are made into jam and compote. This plant probably originated from an area between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea; But it seems that they took it to Europe in ancient times. Most of the cultivars cultivated around the world originate from Europe, but a number of important cultivars have been selected or improved in local cherry-growing regions.

Raw sweet cherries contain 82% water, 16% carbohydrates, 1% protein and a small amount of fat (table). They have moderate dietary fiber and vitamin C, while other vitamins and minerals are each less than 10% of the daily requirement per meal. Compared to sweet cherries, raw sour cherries contain slightly more vitamin C (12%) and vitamin A (8%) per 100 grams.

In Iran, five types of cherries are more popular and are produced by gardeners: 1- Gisela root cherry: This modified cherry is very productive and resistant to drought and pests. 2- Black cherry: This cherry is large and has a fleshy texture. Compared to other cherries, it is harder and it is also cultivated in mountainous and temperate regions. 3- Cluster cherry: This cherry is mostly grown in cold regions. The fruits of this tree are large and clustered and are among the most fruitful trees. 4- Yellow cherry seedling: This type of cherry is early and fruitful and is mostly grown in cold regions such as Urmia. 5- Pink cherry: This cherry is grown in Sardsir altitudes and has a fleshy fruit with a pink color. Pink cherry blossoms after 2 years.
